Aluminium Pool Fence Installation — Mooloolaba

A Mooloolaba family wanted a tough, low-maintenance pool fence that could take the coastal salt — and still look sharp. Powder-coated aluminium was the answer.

Not every Mooloolaba backyard needs frameless glass. This family, a short walk from the beach, wanted something practical: a pool fence that would shrug off the salt air, need almost no upkeep, keep the kids safe, and still look sharp against a modern home — without the frameless-glass price tag.

Powder-coated aluminium was the smart call. Done in marine-grade, it handles the coast beautifully, it’s cost-effective, and a satin-black flat-top profile looks crisp and contemporary.

The site

The pool sat on a paved surround in a family backyard close enough to the water to cop real salt exposure. Two things mattered most. First, child safety — gaps, height and gate function had to be spot-on, because keeping small children out of the pool is the fence’s whole job. Second, longevity in a coastal setting: cheap aluminium and low-grade fixings chalk, fade and seize near the beach, so we specified quality powder-coating and corrosion-resistant hardware.

What we installed

We installed a marine-grade, powder-coated aluminium pool fence in a satin-black flat-top profile, with a matching self-closing, self-latching aluminium gate opening away from the pool and the latch set out of a child’s reach. Everything was set to the Queensland standard — 1200mm minimum height at every point, no gap over 100mm anywhere, and a clear non-climbable zone maintained around the barrier.

The installation process

2. Set the postsAluminium posts core-drilled and set plumb into the pool surround for a rigid, straight line.
3. Panel installPowder-coated flat-top panels fixed between the posts with even, compliant gaps and a level top rail.
4. Self-latching gateThe aluminium gate hung with self-closing hinges and a compliant latch, adjusted to latch every time.
5. Compliance checkHeight, gaps, non-climbable zone and gate function checked against MP3.4 / AS1926.1, ready for a pool safety inspection.

Challenges we solved

Close to the beach, the environment is the enemy of a cheap fence — so the whole spec was chosen to last: quality powder-coating over marine-grade aluminium, and corrosion-resistant fixings that won’t seize or stain. We set the posts to hold a dead-straight line and level top rail across the surround, and positioned the gate latch to the compliant height so it’s out of little hands’ reach.

The result

A tough, low-maintenance pool barrier that looks sharp, keeps the kids safe, and stands up to Mooloolaba’s coastal air year after year — all fully compliant with the Queensland standard, and at a friendlier price than frameless glass. Proof that aluminium, done properly, is a genuinely smart choice on the coast.
