Frameless Glass Pool Fence Installation — Maroochydore

A canal-front home that needed a compliant pool barrier without losing the river view. Here’s how we did it.

When a Maroochydore homeowner near the Maroochy River wanted to replace the tired barrier around their pool, the brief was simple to say and harder to deliver: keep the pool 100% compliant with Queensland’s safety standard, but don’t block the water views the whole backyard was built around.

A canal-front block like this lives on its outlook — a solid or railed fence would have walled it off. Frameless glass was the obvious answer, and getting it right on a coastal, paver-set deck is exactly the kind of job we do across Maroochydore.

The site

The pool sat on an existing travertine paver deck a few metres back from the canal, fully exposed to salt air coming off the water. Two things drove every decision. First, the non-climbable zone: with garden beds and a low retaining edge nearby, the barrier line had to be planned so nothing within 900mm outside the fence could be used as a foothold. Second, corrosion: this close to the water, budget spigots pit and streak with rust inside a couple of seasons, so hardware grade wasn’t negotiable.

What we installed

We specified 12mm toughened safety glass in large panels to keep the sightlines as open as possible, held by discreet marine-grade 316 stainless steel spigots core-drilled into the paver slab. A self-closing, self-latching frameless glass gate was set on the main pathway to the pool, opening away from the water with the latch positioned out of a child’s reach. Every panel and gap was set to the Queensland standard: 1200mm minimum height at every point, no gap over 100mm anywhere, and a clear non-climbable zone maintained around the barrier.

The installation process

1. Measure & planA full site measure, marking the barrier line, gate position and non-climbable zone before anything was ordered — so the glass was cut once and cut right.
2. Core-drilling & spigotsSpigots core-drilled and chemically fixed into the paver slab for a rigid, level base.
3. Panel setPanels lifted in, plumbed and locked, keeping consistent gaps and a dead-level top line across the run.
4. Gate & hardwareThe self-closing gate hung and adjusted so it closes and latches every time.
5. Compliance checkThe finished barrier checked against MP3.4 / AS1926.1 — height, gaps, non-climbable zone and gate function — ready for a pool safety inspection.

Challenges we solved

The paver deck had a slight fall toward the canal, so the run was set out to hold a dead-level top line while keeping every point above the 1200mm minimum. The garden bed on the outside of the fence was reworked with the homeowner so the 900mm non-climbable zone stayed clear. And because the whole point was the view, we kept post and spigot counts to the minimum the engineering allowed — more glass, less metal.

The result

A pool barrier you almost don’t notice: uninterrupted views straight through to the canal, a clean modern finish that lifts the whole backyard, and — most importantly — a fence built to pass a Queensland pool safety inspection. Marine-grade hardware means it will still look this good in ten years of salt air, not streaked with rust.
