Frameless Glass Pool Fence Installation — Caloundra

A beachside Caloundra family swapped a rusting old barrier for frameless glass — safe for the kids, and still open to the sea breeze.

This Caloundra family were done with the old pool fence. A few hundred metres from the water, the previous barrier’s cheap fittings had rusted and stained, and with young kids in the house they wanted something they could trust — without walling off the open, breezy feel that made the backyard theirs.

Frameless glass ticked every box: a barrier you can see straight through, no footholds for a climbing toddler, and — done properly — hardware that shrugs off Caloundra’s salt air for decades instead of years.

The site

The pool sat on a concrete surround in a compact beachside yard that copped constant salt spray off the coast. Two priorities shaped the job. First, child safety: gaps, height and gate function had to be exactly right, because this barrier’s whole job is keeping small children out of the pool. Second, corrosion — this close to the beach, the wrong spigots would be streaked with rust inside a couple of summers, so we weren’t compromising on grade.

What we installed

We installed 12mm toughened safety glass in generous panels to keep the yard feeling open, fixed with marine-grade 316 stainless steel spigots core-drilled into the concrete surround. The self-closing, self-latching glass gate opens away from the pool with the latch set out of a child’s reach. Everything was set to the Queensland standard — 1200mm minimum height at every point, no gap over 100mm, and a clear non-climbable zone kept around the barrier.

The installation process

  1. Measure & planA full site measure marking the fence line, gate position and non-climbable zone before ordering — glass cut once, cut right.
  2. Core-drilling & spigots316 stainless spigots core-drilled and chemically fixed into the concrete surround for a rigid, level base.
  3. Panel setPanels lifted in, plumbed and locked, with consistent gaps and a dead-level top line.
  4. Child-safe gateThe self-closing gate hung and fine-tuned so it closes and latches every time, from any position.
  5. Compliance checkHeight, gaps, non-climbable zone and gate function all checked against MP3.4 / AS1926.1, ready for a pool safety inspection.

Challenges we solved

The tight beachside yard left little room to work, so panels were staged and set carefully to keep gaps consistent right around the pool. The non-climbable zone on the outside of the fence was planned with the family so nothing — pot plants, the BBQ, kids’ toys — sits where it could be used to climb over.

The result

A clean, near-invisible glass barrier the kids can’t get through, the parents don’t have to think about, and that still lets the sea breeze and light straight into the yard. The marine-grade hardware means no rust streaks — it’ll still look this good many summers from now.

Compliance note: Prime Pool Fencing & Balustrades builds every pool barrier to the current Queensland standard, but we are not licensed pool safety inspectors. A pool safety certificate (Form 23) can only be issued by a QBCC-licensed inspector. See our Sunshine Coast pool fence compliance guide for what the standard requires.
