Frameless Glass Pool Fence Installation — Buderim

An elevated Buderim home with a valley view needed a compliant pool fence on a sloping block — without cutting off the outlook.

Buderim homes are built for their views, and this one was no exception — an elevated backyard looking out over a green treed valley, with the pool positioned to make the most of it. The challenge was a familiar one up on the hill: make the pool fully compliant on a sloping block, without a chunky fence chopping the outlook in half.

Frameless glass was the only real answer. Stepped correctly down the slope, it holds the safety standard at every point while all but disappearing against the view.

The site

The pool sat on a timber deck on a block that falls away toward the valley. On a slope like this the fence can’t just run in a straight line — a barrier that measures 1200mm at the top of the fall can easily drop below the minimum further down. So the whole run had to be set out to step with the ground while holding height the entire way. Fixing into a timber deck rather than a concrete slab also changes how the spigots are mounted.

What we installed

We installed 12mm toughened safety glass in panels stepped down the slope, each held by marine-grade 316 stainless steel spigots fixed to suit the timber deck structure. A self-closing, self-latching glass gate was set on the main path to the pool. Every step was set so the barrier stays at least 1200mm high at every point, with no gap over 100mm and a clear non-climbable zone maintained — all to the Queensland standard.

The installation process

1. Measure & planA full site measure along the fall of the block, plotting each step so the barrier holds 1200mm at every point before any glass was ordered.
2. Deck-mounted spigots316 stainless spigots set into the timber deck structure for a rigid base, stepped to follow the slope.
3. Stepped panel setPanels lifted in and locked step by step, keeping consistent gaps and a clean, deliberate top line down the fall.
4. Gate & hardwareThe self-closing gate hung and adjusted so it closes and latches every time.
5. Compliance checkHeight at every step, gaps, non-climbable zone and gate function checked against MP3.4 / AS1926.1, ready for inspection.

Challenges we solved

The fall of the block was the whole job. We set the run out so each panel steps down cleanly while every point of the barrier stays above the 1200mm minimum — the difference between a fence that passes inspection and one that fails on a single low spot. Mounting into the timber deck rather than a slab meant the fixings were engineered to suit the structure, and we kept spigot counts low so the glass, not the metal, framed the view.

The result

A pool barrier that steps neatly down the hillside, holds the Queensland standard at every point, and leaves the valley view almost untouched. From the deck you see the trees, not the fence — and the marine-grade hardware means it stays that way for the long haul.
