Why choose aluminium fencing for your pool?
Aluminium is the practical, budget-friendly way to make a pool safe. It is tough, needs very little upkeep and suits a coastal yard.
Aluminium fencing built for salt air
Aluminium does not rust the way steel does. Salt is still hard on any outdoor metal, so the coating matters. We use a marine-grade powder-coat and corrosion-resistant fixings, so the finish keeps its look for years instead of chalking or staining.
Aluminium that needs little upkeep
A wash with fresh water and a soft cloth is about all it needs. There is no sanding and no repainting, which is a big saving over timber.
Aluminium costs less than glass
Frameless glass costs more, so with aluminium more of your budget can go on the rest of the backyard. It is built to the same safety rules.
Pool fencing that is safe for kids and pets
The vertical rails leave no footholds, and the gaps stay under 100mm. Add a self-latching gate and you have a barrier that works every day, not just when someone is watching.
Aluminium fencing vs glass pool fencing
Not sure whether to go aluminium or glass? Here is how the two compare.
| Feature | Aluminium pool fencing | Glass pool fencing |
|---|
| Cost | Lower | Higher |
| The look | Classic, with vertical rails | Clear and almost invisible |
| View | Rails break the view a little | Keeps the view wide open |
| Upkeep | Very low | Low, but glass shows marks |
| Best for | Budget, low fuss, most yards | Feature pools and views |

Aluminium compared with timber and steel
Timber pool fences need regular painting or staining, and they can rot or warp in our humid weather. Steel rusts once the coating is scratched. Aluminium does not rust, does not rot and does not need repainting, so it suits a fence that lives outside in salt air.
Aluminium fencing styles for pool fences
Aluminium fence panels are fixed between posts, and they come in a few profiles. The right one depends on the look you want.
Aluminium flat-top fencing
A clean, modern look with a straight top rail. It is the most popular choice we install.
Aluminium loop-top fencing
A traditional, decorative look with looped tops, common on classic homes and Queenslanders.
Aluminium slat and batten fencing
Wider blades set close together give a more contemporary, semi-private feel. A slat fence still has to meet the same gap and climbing rules as other pool barriers, so we confirm the spacing on site before we build.
Powder coating, colours and finishes
We powder-coat our aluminium fences in a full range of durable colours, so they can match your home, roof or window frames.
Aluminium fencing colours that suit the coast
Satin black and monument are the two most popular choices on the Sunshine Coast. Dark neutrals look sharp and hide marks well, and we can match most home and roof colours.
Powder coating near the beach
Powder coating is baked onto the metal as a hard shell, and that shell keeps salt off the aluminium underneath. Rinse the fence with fresh water now and then, especially close to the beach, and the finish will last.
Aluminium gates for your pool fence
Every pool fence needs a compliant gate, and the gate is the part that fails inspections more than any other. We fit aluminium gates that match your fence and set them up properly.
Aluminium gates that self-close and self-latch
Our aluminium gates open away from the pool. They have self-closing hinges and a magnetic self-latching latch, so the gate pulls shut and latches from any open position. The latch release sits at least 1500mm above the ground, out of reach of a small child.
Aluminium gates to match your fence
Our aluminium gates come in the same flat-top profile and colour as the fence, so it all looks like one piece. If you need a second gate for a side path or the pool pump area, we can add more aluminium gates, as long as they meet the barrier rules. Our pool gate installation page has more on hinges and latches.
Aluminium fencing installation, from measure to final check
Our fencing services follow the same steps on every job.
Free measure and quote
We visit your yard, measure up and look at the ground, the pool and the access. You get a free, itemised quote that shows the metres of fence, the number of gates, the style and the colour.
Fencing installation and final check
We supply the fence and install it ourselves. Posts are set in concrete or fixed into an existing slab or pavers, depending on your site. When the fence is in, we check the height, the gaps, the gate and the latch against AS 1926.1. If an older fence needs attention, see our pool fence repairs page.
How much does aluminium fencing cost on the Sunshine Coast?
Aluminium is one of the more affordable ways to fence a pool, and it is almost always cheaper than frameless glass. As a rough guide, installed aluminium pool fencing runs about $80 to $200 per metre, and a pool gate about $400 to $900 each. Those are general Australian market ranges for 2026, not a quote.
The price of your fencing installation depends on:
- how many metres of fence you need
- the style and colour
- the number of gates
- the ground, since a concrete slab or pavers is easier than a deck or a retaining wall
- site access and slope
- whether an old fence has to come out
Two quotes for the same fence can be very different, so ask what grade of hardware is included. Our free quote is itemised, so you can see what you are paying for.
Aluminium pool fencing and the Queensland standard
An aluminium pool fence has to meet the same Queensland pool safety rules as any other barrier. Those rules are set out in Queensland Development Code MP3.4 and Australian Standard AS 1926.1. In plain terms:
- Height: at least 1200mm from the ground to the top of the fence, at every point
- Gaps: no gap over 100mm between rails or under the fence
- Non-climbable zone: 900mm clear outside the fence and 300mm inside, measured from the top of a 1200mm fence
- Gate: self-closing and self-latching from any position, and opening away from the pool
We build every safety-compliant aluminium fence to these technical specifications. We do not issue pool safety certificates. Only a licensed pool safety inspector can do that, and they check the pool barriers when you book your inspection. Our Queensland pool fence compliance guide explains the steps.
Aluminium balustrades for balconies, decks and stairs
As well as pool fencing, we install aluminium balustrades on the Sunshine Coast for balconies, decks and stairs. Aluminium is a tough, budget-friendly alternative to glass, and it gives you more privacy. It comes in the same powder-coated finishes. If you prefer the clear look, compare it with our glass balustrades.

Frequently asked questions about aluminium fencing
Is aluminium fencing cheaper than glass?
Yes, in almost every case. Aluminium is one of the most cost-effective ways to fence a pool, and it is fully compliant. Glass costs more but gives a more open look. We can quote both.
Does an aluminium fence rust or corrode near the beach?
Aluminium itself does not rust like steel. The risk is to the coating and the fixings, so we use quality powder-coating and corrosion-resistant hardware. Near the beach, a rinse with fresh water every so often keeps the finish looking good.
How long does aluminium fencing last, and what maintenance does it need?
A well-coated aluminium fence lasts for many years. The metal does not rot or rust, so the finish is what wears first. How long it lasts depends on how close you are to the water and how it is looked after, so we do not put a number on it. To look after it, wash it with fresh water and a soft cloth every few months.
What colours does aluminium fencing come in?
A full range of powder-coat colours. Satin black and monument are the most popular on the coast, but we can match most home and roof colours.
Will a black aluminium fence get hot in the sun?
Any dark surface warms up in full sun, and a black fence is no different. If your fence faces the afternoon sun with no shade, a lighter colour will stay cooler to touch.
Do you install aluminium gates as well?
Yes. Every fence includes a compliant, self-closing and self-latching gate. Our aluminium gates match your fence, and we can fit extra aluminium gates where you need them.
Is an aluminium fence safe for children?
Yes, when it is built to the Queensland standard with the correct height, gaps and a self-latching gate. The vertical rails give a child no easy footholds to climb.
Is aluminium fencing the same as aluminum fencing?
Yes. Aluminium is the Australian spelling. You may see aluminum fencing on overseas websites, but it is the same metal.
